Meet The Artist

Lisa Bassett, founding artist of LBW Creative Studio creating an original abstract impasto painting on a canvas in a bright art studio.

Every painting I create begins with a question.

Sometimes it's "What happens if I pull these colors together?" Other times it's "Can movement exist on a still canvas?" I never begin with a rigid plan—I begin with curiosity.

I'm a self-taught contemporary abstract artist based in California, and my work is inspired by the movement of water, changing light, emotion, and the beautiful unpredictability of the creative process. Each piece evolves through layers of experimentation, intuition, and discovery until it feels alive.

I have always been fascinated by the way color can influence emotion and how texture and movement can transform a simple canvas into an experience. Rather than painting a specific place or moment, I hope my work creates space for viewers to bring their own memories, emotions, and interpretations. A painting means something different to every person who stands in front of it, and I love that.

One of my greatest joys is not knowing exactly how a painting will end. Some pieces come together quickly, while others ask for patience, revision, and countless small decisions before revealing themselves. Every painting teaches me something new, and that's one of the reasons I continue to paint.

Whether you're collecting an original painting, bringing home a limited-edition print, or commissioning something created especially for your space, my hope is that each piece brings movement, color, and a sense of calm or wonder into your home.

Thank you for being here. I hope you enjoy exploring my work as much as I've enjoyed creating it.
